What projects are all about

Bellow is a list of some of the Mission House success stories:

BHA      Le Triomphe Orphanage      ACE camp Romaina      Smaller projects

Beacon Hill Academy

Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka

Students from different backgrounds develop friendships at BHA at the same time as gaining a valuable education.

Beacon Hill Academy (BHA) is a unique institute located in the rural hill country of Sri Lanka. This institute offers a free one-year course in English, liberal arts and job skills to high school graduates from a variety of religious, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. In a country suffering from a devastating ethnic war, BHA's emphasis on teamwork, critical thinking and service seeks to make a difference.

The Canadian branch of The Mission House (formerly known as SAEF) has been the main funding partner for BHA since it started in 2003 and the project is overseen by Matt & Rebecca Baker of Canada.

Le Triomphe Orphanage

Some of the 102 children at Le Triomphe Children’s Home, where The Mission House has installed a fresh water supply system and also sponsors many children.

Ambohimangakaley - Madagascar

The Mission House has supported children from Le Triomphe Children’s Centre since 2005. The Centre is an orphanage for 102 children and is an important part of the local rural community.

As well as financial support for their ongoing daily needs through our unique Child Sponsorship Program The Mission House has also provided new shoes and clothing for the children, short term Field Staff Volunteers to help in the Centre and contributed to an annual summer camp for all the children.

A significant development project in terms of size and cost was the installation of a fresh water supply system.

This involved acquiring land with a sustainable source of suitable spring water, building three 20,000 gallon concrete tanks, installing a solar powered pump (first of its kind in Madagascar) and all external and internal piping, excavating channels and installing drainage.

- 10 local men were employed for ten days to dig 600 metres of trench and hand cutting through a granite outcrop. (Le Triomphe is on a steep hill).
- 300 cubic metres (about 30 truckloads) of earth were moved
- 1202 metres of pipe laid / installed
- 574 plumbing fittings used
- 75 cubic metres sand, gravel and stone used
- 172 emails sent during the course of the project.
- Funds for the project were provided by individual donors

In keeping with our Vision Statement, the involvement of The Mission House in Le Triomphe is to assist in the Centre becoming self-sustaining and therefore not dependent on external relief.

ACE camp in Romania

Performing for their fellow Campers and Staff (Building confidence through Performing Arts)

(Activity Centred Experience Camp)

As part of the fulfilment of our vision to bring about transformation in people lives we have provided annual summer camps for the young people from three orphanages in Romania.

Staffed by UK Volunteers and local Carers the program centres on outdoor and indoor activities. These camps provide opportunities for physical, social and spiritual, development that would otherwise not be possible for these young people.

A key part of the program is the requirement that the older teens (16+) join a community development project for a short time to introduce them to the concept of ‘giving something back’.

We expect to develop this element of the program even further in 2008.
